On Wednesday, September 17, 2014, CICATS held a Health Disparities Science Café in the Academic Lobby at UConn Health. Attended by faculty, researchers, public officials and community-based organizations, this informal event brought together stakeholders in the fight to eliminate health disparities. Through engaging talks from invited speakers and the networking of collaborators in an innovative open mike format, the Health Disparities Science Café was an exciting and productive event. New collaborative working relationships were formed to further address the the elimination of health disparities beyond the Science Café event. CICATS will continue to support a strong coalition dedicated to the elimination of Health Disparities through its newly formed Health Disparities Core Interest Group.
These programs would not have been possible and successful without the support of our faculty, partners, affiliates, administrators and most importantly the Connecticut Legislative Black and Puerto Rican Caucus. Their continued support has helped us to expand and to develop new program initiatives to close the health disparities gap as well as to create a pipeline for underrepresented minority students to enter into the field of science.
